On Earth-17909, two spiders swing through the city, fighting crime and locking up supervillains...
Project Status: Successful [CLOSED]
Project Spyder is a SHIELD bio-altering experiment that aimed to replicate the abilities of Spider-Man in a SHIELD controlled operative. The project was created, in the event that the vigilante known as Spider-Man be deemed dangerous. The success of the experiment would provide a solution should Spider-Man need to be stopped.
The project was successful upon the second attempt, providing TS-2 with the ability to stick to almost any surface, enhanced strength and speed, advanced healing abilities, and claws that secrete a powerful neurotoxin.
Real Name: Ahalya Mehta
Ahalya Mehta was recruited as the head scientist to lead Project Spyder. Early experimentation focused on developing gear and technology. Through later observation from Agent Tao, Mehta theorised a biological component to Spider-man's abilities. The Project pivoted to focusing on engineering a serum that would alter a subject's biology. Mehta volunteered herself as TS-1. Despite numerous simulated calculations, the serum had no effect on Mehta. The TS-1 experiment was deemed a failure.
Mehta curently operates as a field support agent under the codename Chrysilla, assisted by the robot WEBBI (Wireless, Encrypted, Binary Bot and Interface).
Real Name: Jia Tao
Agent Jia Tao was assigned to shadow Spider-man in the field, and report any significant observations to Agent Mehta. A skilled fighter and tactician who began training from a young age, she was also tasked with studying the skills and movement patterns demonstrated by the vigilante in order to better replicate or counter him.
Later Tao was selected as TS-2, and a copy of Mehta's serum was administered to her. The TS-2 experiment was a success.
Tao continues operation as a field agent with the code name Avicularia.
Let's start at the beginning, one more time...
The year is 2022. My best friend and I finished watching Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse (2018) for the millionth time, when I was struck with inspiration.
"Anyone can wear the mask"
It was this idea that inspired me and many others to think about what it would be like to be a part of the Spider-verse. Of course, my best friend would be right there with me. And so, I began to draw.
Combining our favourite superhero characteristics, aesthetics, and Marvel lore, the spidersonas of Earth-17909 came to life.
Agents Avicularia and Chrysilla are named after two species of spiders, chosen mostly to match the colour schemes of my designs. Avicularia Purpurea is a dark bluish-purple tarantula typically found in Ecuador. Chrysilla Volupe are a type of jumping spider with iridescent scales giving them a very colourful appearance.
